Investment Management Industry Joins Young Person's Guarantee in Scotland

Investment20/20, the talent service for UK-based investment managers, has been announced as the latest partner to join the Young Person’s Guarantee, connecting young people in Scotland to career opportunities in investment management.

Investment20/20 is an industry initiative to help drive young diverse talent into investment management, providing access and opportunity. It currently has 12 investment management firms as part of its membership in Scotland including abrdn, Artemis, BNP Paribas Securities Services and M&G. Investment20/20 employer partners provide young people with paid trainee opportunities, with M&G having recently released its roles.

Outside of London, Edinburgh is the second largest hub of investment management in the UK with total assets managed in Scotland reaching £690 billion in 2021 (an increase of £100 billion from the previous year).

Karis Stander, Managing Director of Investment20/20, said: “We are thrilled to be a Young Person’s Guarantee signatory, helping to provide an entry point to the investment management industry for young people in Scotland. Investment20/20 brings diverse new talent from schools, colleges and universities to new opportunities within our member firms, providing relevant training, networking opportunities and jobs to ensure they have the best support as they start their journey into work.

“We also look forward to working collaboratively with Scottish Government and Scottish Financial Enterprise in their broader efforts to ensure young people are appropriately skilled to meet future job requirements across different sectors, including financial services.”

Jamie Hepburn MSP, Minister for Higher Education and Further Education, Youth Employment and Training said: “Investment20/20’s focus on providing training, networking and access to high quality jobs is helping to unearth untapped talent and their involvement in the Young Person's Guarantee demonstrates their commitment to support our young people.

“The investment management industry plays a crucial role in Scotland’s strategically important financial services ecosystem.”

Investment managers provide patient capital and take a long-term view when investing in businesses and infrastructure projects and with nearly three quarters of UK households using the service of an investment manager – largely through their pension savings – the industry plays a pivotal role in the UK economy and society as a whole. In 2021, investment managers invested £1.7 trillion in the UK economy, owned nearly 40% of the UK plc and invested £40 billion in UK infrastructure.
